Beach of Chiaia: The Paradise that deserves (one step at a time)
There are beaches where you can easily reach by car and beaches that you have to conquer. TheBeach of Chiaiabelongs to the second category. Along with the nearby bay of Via dei Bagni, it is the most central beach on the island of Procida, but also the most famous for its186 steps. Is it worth it? Absolutely yes: once you reach the bottom, all the effort melts away as you take in one of the most iconic views of the Mediterranean.
A Family to Measuring Child
Chiaia is the preferred destination for procidane families and tourists with small children. Why? Hisshore is very lowfor tens of meters: the water is crystal clear and safe, allowing the little ones to play in total tranquility. The bay is a natural embrace: on the one hand you are protected by a high rock rib where typical houses emerge, on the other you have the spectacular view onMarina Corricella, which from here looks like a seaside nativity scene nestled between the rocks and the heights ofWalled Land.
The Passage of Via dei Bagni
If you do not love the steep stairs (even if panoramic), there is a second access throughVia dei Bagni. Here the descent is slightly sweeter and the path winds between rocks of volcanic origin. It is a fascinating path that allows you to change the beach almost without realizing it, walking right on the border between the land and the blue sea.
Il Sole alla Chiaia: The Secret of the "Mattinieri"
Being exposed to the East/North-East, Chiaia is the perfect beach for those who love to wake up early and enjoy the rush.
- The Morning:The sun rises early, towards the7:30in the middle of summer. It is the magical time when water is flat like a mirror.
- The afternoon:Attention to the logistics of the sun! Being overstated by a high rocky wall, the beachgoes in shadow very soon. Already towards the15:00 – 15:30the sun disappears behind the rib. If you are looking for the sun until sunset, this is not your beach, but if you are looking for a fresh and regenerating afternoon after a hot morning, it is the perfect place.
Plants and Taste
The Chiaia offers a great balance: most of the beach isfree, ideal for those who love an authentic beach experience on dark volcanic sand. However, there is no shortagebathing establishmentshistorical and well equipped. One of these is home to one of the most renowned restaurants on the island: dining or dining here, with feet almost in the water and the look at the Corricella, is an experience that alone is worth the trip to Procida.
