Postino beach: The Bay where Poetry becomes Sea
There are places that do not visit only with feet, but with the heart. The Pozzo Vecchio beach, universally known as the Postino beachIt's one of these. Set on the western side of the island, this horseshoe-shaped bay became a legend in 1994, when Massimo Troisi chose it to shoot the most intense scenes of his latest film masterpiece.
A Game of Contrasts: Dark Sand and Crystal Water
What makes the Postino beach unique in the world is its incredible chromatic impact. Here nature has mixed colors with the hand of an artist: the dark sand of volcanic origin creates a breathtaking contrast with the clear blue of water. The bay is protected by cliffs covered with Mediterranean scrub, dotted with small caves and coves that you can easily explore by swimming.
As the film said: "When you explain it, poetry becomes trivial. Better than explanations, it is the direct experience of emotions". And this is precisely the emotion that you try to set foot on this beach: a feeling of rare peace, where time seems to have stopped at that mule that walked the island paths.
The Time of the Sun: The Bay Who Can Be Waited
The beach of the Postino is "timida" and loves to be waited. Being surrounded by high rocky walls, the sun does not kiss her immediately in the morning:
- Waiting: The sun rises behind the mountain and begins to illuminate the first part of the beach towards the 10:00.
- The Sun Full: The bay is fully illuminated between 11:00 and 11:30. It is the perfect place for those who love to wake up quietly, enjoy a slow breakfast at the port and then go down to the beach to spend hours between rejuvenating baths and romantic walks, waiting for the sunset that gives unforgettable violet shades here.
Establishments and Comfort
The Pozzo Vecchio beach keeps its wild soul: most of the coast is free beach, ideal for those seeking authentic contact with nature. However, for those who do not want to give up comfort, there is one bathing establishments equipped with sun loungers, umbrellas and bar service.
Practice Guide: How to get to Postino Beach
